What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics tells you a lot about how people are finding your website, what they are doing once they are there and importantly it will allow you to determine the changes you should make to be able to attract more visitors and convert more of those visitors into customers.

There are many reports in Google Analytics. Over 80 at last count.

The service is Free.

With Google Analytics you can track all of your various marketing campaigns including your Adwords campaigns. The information it provides will tell you which keywords are really working, which ad text is the most effective and where your visitors are dropping out of the conversion process.

Do not be misled into thinking that because this is free that it isn't very powerful. It is an incredibly powerful package and you would really be doing yourself a big favour if you added this to you kit bag of tools for driving forward your web business.

For AdWords advertisers in particular, this is a must have. It is fully integrated with AdWords. You can even access it directly from your Adwords account from the Analytics tab.

To get started with Google Analytics, simply visit http://www.google.com/analytics/ or click the Analytics tab in your AdWords account. You will be guided through a simple sign-up process which will require the addition of a code snippet.

Once that is done, you will start gathering data. This is usually immediate however don't be worried if it takes up to 24 hours before you see some data.

And believe me, once you see some of the data it can show you, I can guarantee you will be hooked on how incredibly powerful this tool is.
