Whether you are trying to climb the free search engine ranks or get a high placement for your Pay per Click ads, you will already know that finding the right keywords has got to be the number one priority.
Do a search on Google for keyword tools and you will find many tools available. Some free. Some not. Some good. Many not!
So how do you know if a keyword tool is going to give you good results and guide you towards the right keywords for your site.
Well, if you are trying to get a good ranking on Google, then it stands to reason that their own keyword tool is likely to be very good at telling you about keywords for their search engine. I mean, if they don't know then who does!
The good thing about Google's keyword tool is that it is free. So the only thing your keyword research is going to cost you is time.
So before you head over to Google and start using it, here's a couple of quick pointers on how to use it.
There are two options you can use to find keywords. The first is called the "Descriptive words or phrases" search.
To use this option, you simply type in some words that describe what you are looking for keywords for. For example: if you sell outdoor clothes then you would probably start with typing outdoor clothes and let Google suggest keywords that match that phrase.
This option is usually the best one to start with when you first start your keyword research
For this option, you simply enter in a web page address and Google will examine the page and tell you what keywords would work well with that page.
This is a great way to check out how well optimised a page is for a keyword. If you run this on a page and Google doesn't suggest your keyword as one of the ones to pick for that page then you know that Google doesn't think it is very well optimised for that keyword. So, you can then fix the page and optimise it for your chosen keyword.
Also, here's a sneaky trick. Why not use this option on your competitors site and see what keywords that Google thinks their web pages are optimised for.
