Starting a New Web Business and need advice?

So you are planning to start a new web business. Any new business can be quite a challenge to start and web businesses are no different.

They do have slightly different challenges to normal businesses and they have one advantage in that it doesn't need to cost a small fortune to set up. No need for office or shop overheads. It can all be in virtual space.

Of course you may actually be launching a web business alongside you existing normal business. Many companies do it. Sometimes they do it to expand their current business offering onto the web and sometimes they do it to diversify into new types of business.

Whatever the reason, there are still a number of challenges that need to be overcome.

One of the first challenges is setting up your website and getting people to visit it. Lots of people!

You need to learn how to promote your website and you need to learn fast. Even if you plan to hire someone to do this for you, you still need to understand how its done so that you can be sure they are doing a good job for you.

My advice is you must learn the basics of Search Engine Optimisation. It really isn't that difficult. Sure some of the "experts" will tell you lots of techno babble that is meant to impress but to be honest the principles of SEO (as the techies call it!) are really easy to understand.
