Yahoo

Established in 1994 and probably one of the original Directories on the Internet, Yahoo is now a leading global Internet communications, commerce and media company.

Yahoo! began as a student hobby by the founders David Filo and Jerry Yang who were both Ph.D. candidates in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. They started their guide to internet sites in February 1994 as a way to keep track of their personal interests on the Internet.

In 1995, Yahoo as it was called became a business following a $2 million investment from Sequoia Capital.

The rest is, as they say, history.

It is still a major contender in the Search Engine world, probably only second to Google for the number of searches and users.

Like Google, Yahoo also has it's own Pay Per Click service called Yahoo Search Marketing
